Jake Trbojevic to Captain New-Look Blues
Michael Maguire Names Six Debutants for Series Opener
NSW forward Jake Trbojevic has been named captain of a new-look Blues team for the upcoming June 5 series opener at Accor Stadium.
Blues coach Michael Maguire has made wholesale changes to the team, with six debutants named in the squad. The incumbent captain, Dylan Edwards, has been dropped in favor of Penrith Panthers star Scott Drinkwater. Maguire said he made the decision to name Trbojevic captain due to his leadership qualities and experience in the Origin arena.
"Jake is a natural leader and we believe he has the experience and temperament to lead this new-look Blues team," Maguire said. "He's a tough, uncompromising player who will demand the best from himself and his teammates."
Trbojevic said he was honored to be named captain and was looking forward to the challenge of leading the Blues to victory. "I'm excited to be given the opportunity to lead this team and I'm determined to do everything I can to help us win," Trbojevic said.
The Blues will face a tough challenge in the series opener against a Queensland team that has won the last four series. But Maguire is confident that his new-look team can challenge the Maroons. "We've got a lot of young talent in this team and we're excited to see what they can do," Maguire said. "I believe we have the potential to be a successful team and we're going to give it our all to win the series."
