Match Summary
India got off to a flyer, racing to 50 runs in just 5 overs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked in ominous form, taking apart the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Gill was the first to depart for 21, but Rohit Sharma continued to dominate, bringing up his fifty off just 32 balls.
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav kept the momentum going, scoring at a brisk pace. Kohli was eventually dismissed for 28, but Yadav went on to score a brilliant century, his second in ODI cricket. He was ably supported by KL Rahul, who scored 64.
Sri Lanka's bowlers finally found some success in the latter stages of the innings, but India had already amassed a mammoth total of 373/7. In reply, Sri Lanka got off to a poor start, losing their top three batsmen cheaply.
Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando showed some resistance, but they were unable to build a substantial partnership. Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne provided some late resistance, but it was too little too late.
India eventually bowled Sri Lanka out for 226, winning the match by a comfortable margin of 147 runs.
Impact
The victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The second ODI is scheduled to be played on July 20 in Colombo.
