Two Rookies Inactive, Won't Play in Eagles Opener Against Packers
Rookie Tight End Grant Calcaterra Out With Hamstring Injury
The Philadelphia Eagles will be without two of their top rookies when they open the regular season against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Tight end Grant Calcaterra and defensive end Arnold Ebiketie have both been ruled inactive due to injuries.
Calcaterra, a sixth-round pick out of SMU, has been dealing with a hamstring injury since training camp. He missed the entire preseason and has not practiced in full since August 12. The Eagles are hopeful that he will be able to return to practice next week.
Rookie Defensive End Arnold Ebiketie Out With Knee Injury
Ebiketie, a second-round pick out of Penn State, is dealing with a knee injury. He suffered the injury in the Eagles' preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins. Ebiketie is expected to miss at least the first few weeks of the regular season.
Eagles Hope to Have Both Rookies Back Soon
The Eagles are hopeful that both Calcaterra and Ebiketie will be able to return to the lineup soon. Calcaterra is a talented pass-catcher who could provide a boost to the Eagles' passing attack. Ebiketie is a versatile pass-rusher who could help the Eagles' defense generate more pressure.
Next Man Up Mentality
With Calcaterra and Ebiketie out, the Eagles will need other players to step up. Jack Stoll and Tyree Jackson will likely see more playing time at tight end. Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat will be expected to carry the load at defensive end.
Eagles Still Confident Heading Into Opener
Despite the injuries to Calcaterra and Ebiketie, the Eagles are still confident heading into their opener against the Packers. The Eagles have a veteran-laden team that is led by quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles are also coming off a 9-8 season in which they made the playoffs.
